Grants Manager and Impact Analyst

The Just Trust
Full-time
Salary: $110,000.00 - $140,000.00 Annually
Application Deadline: N/A
Nonprofit Organization

The Grants Manager and Impact Analyst will own the operational systems behind The Just Trust's grant making: managing outgoing grantee payments, tracking incoming restricted grants, and keeping the data infrastructure that powers our Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) work accurate and usable. This is a full-time role sitting at the intersection of Finance & Operations, Program, and Office of the CEO, with close day-to-day collaboration across the organization. This role will also help build and strengthen the organization’s long-term measurement and learning infrastructure, ensuring that grant making strategy, organizational priorities, and program outcomes are translated into actionable insights and measurable impact. The Grants and Impact Manager will play a critical role in helping The Just Trust develop the systems, reporting practices, and analytical capacity needed to support evidence-based decision-making, strategic learning, and philanthropic credibility as the organization enters its next phase of growth.

The Grants Manager and Impact Analyst must have exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills, fluency with data management tools, excellent communication skills, and a passion for using data to improve grant making and the grantee experience. The ideal candidate is a systems thinker with a strong operational instinct. They are someone who sees a grants database not just as an administrative tool but as the connective tissue between what the organization funds and what it can prove. They bring hands-on experience managing the grant lifecycle, from award through audit, and they know how to keep multiple open workflows moving without letting anything fall through the cracks. Additionally, this role will be expected to work at the cutting edge of AI integration to ensure that TJT effectively uses AI tools.

This person also cares about impact measurement and learning as practical infrastructure. They understand how data collection actually works inside a small organization, and they know how to make MEL systems usable for teams who are also trying to do ten other things. They are organized without being rigid, comfortable moving between financial details and programmatic context, and genuinely motivated by the idea that better data makes better decisions.

They are excited by the idea of joining a small, focused team at a real inflection point. 2026 is the year The Just Trust is building the measurement backbone for its next multi-year strategy, and this role is part of making that happen.

Essential Duties

Grants Management

  • Manage GivingData as the primary system of record for grantee relationships, including entering new grants, tracking multi-year commitments, logging payment milestones, and maintaining audit-ready records.
  • Own the process that moves a grant from approval to payment: coordinate with the Program Team on execution timelines, confirm deliverables with grantees, and flag anything that would delay close.
  • Ensure the translation of grants going out with the impact of the organization.
  • Collect grantee progress and final reporting data on a rolling basis and maintain records that support both compliance reporting and organizational learning.
  • Draft and update grant guidelines, award letters, and reporting templates as needed.
  • Interpret, assess, and evaluate the organization's grant risk tolerance for all giving, including sponsorships, contributions, and awards.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

  • Ensure a robust MEL system and infrastructure is deployed across our grantmaking and first party work.
  • Support qualitative research efforts including survey and interview design, data collection and analysis
  • Maintain the org-wide indicator tracker, flag data gaps, and coordinate across teams to keep MEL inputs current.
  • Prepare clean, usable datasets and summaries for quarterly strategy reviews, donor materials, and board reporting.
  • Document data sources, version control standards, and indicator ownership in partnership with the MEL team.
  • Support the integration of AI-assisted MEL tools as they come online in 2026, including custom GPTs and the Rural Senses Evaluation Database.
  • Strengthen The Just Trust’s credibility and visibility within the philanthropic sector by improving the organization’s ability to collect, analyze, and communicate measurable outcomes, program impact, and strategic learning to public and private funding partners, while contributing to proposals and donor materials that clearly articulate outputs, outcomes, and long-term impact.

Cross-functional Operations

  • Own agenda preparation and follow-through for the monthly FinOps/Program/Grants Management coordination meeting.
  • Build and maintain Asana workplans for grants management workflows, including the EOY grants processing checklist.
  • Train staff and grantee partners on GivingData to build data literacy and analytical capacity.
  • The ability to thrive in a dynamic and rapidly growing organization that requires you to flex between strategic, operational, and tactical levels.
  • A deep alignment and commitment to the vision of The Just Trust.

The person holding this position may also work part-time for a coordinated project, The Just Trust for Action, a 501(c)(4) organization, under a resource sharing agreement between The Just Trust for Education and The Just Trust for Action. The responsibilities under that position will be overseen by The Just Trust’s CEO.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • 5 - 8 years of experience in grants management, program operations, data analysis, or a related function in a nonprofit or foundation setting. Demonstrated ability to manage a grants database with accuracy — we use GivingData, but experience with Foundant, Fluxx, Blackbaud, or a comparable system is directly transferable.
  • Experience in grant management or grant administration is highly preferred.
  • Experience at a grantmaking non-profit organization, philanthropic organization, private foundation, community foundation, or funding collaborative is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) financial structures preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience in data analytics.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or PowerBI preferred.
  • Communicate data analysis to executive-level and/or non-technical audiences.
  • Comfort working across financial and programmatic functions.
  • Proficiency in Excel is required. Experience with Sage Intacct, Salesforce, or Asana is a plus.
  • Familiarity with MEL frameworks (what an indicator is, how data collection workflows work, what makes a measurement system usable) matters more than formal evaluation credentials.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple open grant processes at different stages simultaneously. The org runs a lot of concurrent work with a small team, so self-direction and clear communication about status are non-negotiable.
  • Ensure data quality by advising on data structure for new processes as they are built.
  • Able to work independently, manage multiple deadline driven projects at once and possess strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to criminal justice reform and the mission of The Just Trust.
