Grant Writing Contractor – Remote

Duration: February 18 – June 30

Weekly Commitment: A minimum of 30 hours per week, with the possibility to increase to 45
hours per week.

Founded in 2008, Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to
provide weekend food for school-aged children across America who might otherwise go hungry.
Blessings envisions a future where every school-aged child in America has the nourishment
needed to learn and grow. Guided by a ‘One Team for All Kids’ philosophy, Blessings is committed

remarkable 15-year legacy, Blessing’s network for volunteers, donors, and team members have
provided over 30M hunger-free weekends, reaching over 1M children.

In support of this mission, we are seeking a Grant Writing Contractor to assist in maintaining and
growing our fundraising efforts. This role is essential in ensuring a seamless continuation of our
grant-writing and reporting activities, collaborating with internal teams, and assisting with research
and identification of funding opportunities.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Grant Writing Contractor will work closely with the Chapter Team to manage and execute all
grant writing and reporting responsibilities, with a 3-4 week overlap for training and knowledge
transfer. The contractor will be responsible for drafting compelling grant proposals, researching
new funding opportunities, ensuring the continued progress of active grant projects, and assisting
with various grant-related tasks. This is a temporary, remote position requiring a proactive, selfsufficient
individual with a strong track record in grant writing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities include:

  • Grant Proposal and Report Writing & Submission
    o Draft high-quality, tailored grant proposals and reports in compliance with donor
    guidelines.
    o Work closely with Managing Directors to gather data, develop narratives, and create
    proposals that are compelling and align with funder priorities.
    o Ensure all proposals and reports meet deadlines and are formatted according to
    funder specifications.
  • Grant Management & Reporting
    o Track active grant applications, follow up on submissions, and assist with
    compliance tasks such as submitting grant agreements or acknowledgment letters.
    o Maintain records of submitted grants, outcomes, and feedback, ensuring accuracy
    and clarity.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    o Collaborate with internal teams to understand grant priorities for the various
    chapters and stakeholders.
    o Regularly communicate with the Chapter Grants Manager, and VP of Chapter
    Relations, to ensure alignment on goals and expectations.
  • Training and Knowledge Transfer
    o Work alongside the Chapter Grants Manager during the initial 3–4 weeks to ensure a
    smooth transition of responsibilities, including a detailed handover of current
    grants and tasks.
    o Gain familiarity with the grant management systems, tools, and active proposals to
    ensure seamless operations during the leave period.
  • Grant Research & Identification
    o Conduct research to identify potential funding opportunities that align with
    Blessings’ mission and goals.
    o Build a pipeline of prospective grants to support the organization's long-term growth
    and sustainability.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

To succeed in this role, the contractor must meet the following qualifications:

  • Experience
    o Minimum of 3 years of experience in grant writing and fundraising.
    o Proven success in writing and securing grants, with a strong portfolio of past work.
    o Familiarity with nonprofit grant fundraising and knowledge of key funding sources.
  • Skills
    o Exceptional written communication and editing skills.
    o Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members.
    o Strong organizational and time management skills to juggle multiple projects and
    meet deadlines.
  • Additional Requirements
    o Knowledge of federal grant compliance and the ability to manage multiple grants
    concurrently.
    o Strong ability to prioritize tasks and maintain attention to detail.
    o References or examples of previous successful grant proposals will be highly
    regarded.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations.
  • Knowledge of Raisers Edge or similar donor management software.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit grant writing platforms such as Candid.

BENEFITS

This position is a temporary contract role and does not include full employee benefits, but
contractors will be compensated for hours worked based on the terms above.
